Chamoli Cloudburst: Several Missing and Rescue Operations Are Underway In Uttarakhand

Chamoli Cloudburst: A cloudburst caused widespread damage and destruction in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday evening. Massive amounts of debris were thrown into the area by this natural disaster, which swept over homes, infrastructure, and buildings.

The Chamoli cloudburst affected primarily the Tharali area, the Tharali Tehsil Complex, and Tharali Market. These areas were completely covered by heavy debris. The sudden surge of rocks and mud that followed intense rains also affected residential areas, businesses, shops, and cars.

The official residence of Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDM) was among the heavily damaged buildings, highlighting the extent of damage caused by the Chamoli Cloudburst. Residents have fled their homes in panic as teams of rescue workers work around the clock trying to find missing people.

The cloudburst that occurred in Tharali Tehsil, Chamoli, on Sunday night could have caused a great deal of damage. The cloudburst has caused a lot of damage to many homes, including that of the SDM.

Villagers of Sagwara discovered a young girl trapped in a building near the affected main area. This added urgency to ongoing rescue efforts. Residents rushed for safety immediately as the emergency response team mobilized at the disaster site.

Chamoli’s cloudburst also caused major disruptions to the transportation network in this region. The Tharali – Gwaldam and Tharali – Sagwara roads remain closed because of accumulated debris. Heavy rains and accumulating debris have also hampered rescue operations.

The video footage shows the residents of affected areas wading in water up to their knees as they navigate through debris-filled houses. This is a testament to the extent of flooding caused by the Chamoli cloudburst. The natural disaster also caused significant damage to several shops located in the Chepdon area.

Since the accident, emergency response teams of the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have conducted intensive rescue operations. The specialized teams work tirelessly in order to find missing people and to provide aid to the affected families.

Last night, NDRF and SDRF moved teams to the site. Floods have blocked the road and caused many problems for people. Administration is involved in relief efforts. We have also set up camps for relief,” Vivekprakash, Additional District Magistrate of the district, told ANI.

Local authorities established relief camps for displaced families to offer temporary housing and basic supplies. District administration is continuing to coordinate relief efforts, while also assessing the extent of the damage caused by the Chamoli cloudburst.
