Mansa Devi Stampede: 7 Dead and Several Injured in Haridwar

Mansa Devi Stampede – A tragic stampede occurred at the Mansa Devi Temple, Haridwar on, claiming seven lives. The incident sent shockwaves throughout the Hindu community in the area and across the nation. This incident took place on the stairs leading to the main temple area during Sawan, the auspicious Hindu calendar month.
Vinay Shankar Pandey of the Garhwal division said that the sudden surge in visitors at the popular temple, which attracts thousands of pilgrims during the festival, such as Shiv-followers and Kanwariyas. According to initial reports, rumours about an electrical current running down the steps caused chaos amongst the crowd. This led to the fatal stampede.
Pushkar Singh, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, confirmed that local police and the State Disaster Response Force immediately began extensive rescue and aid operations. Pramendra Dobal, Senior Superintendent of Haridwar Police, said that “the police and emergency services quickly deployed to the scene for rescue efforts.” Seven deaths were confirmed, and more than 35 patients have been treated in nearby hospitals.
Many of the wounded were carried on stretchers to the hospital with support from local authorities and medical staff. Video footage from the incident showed that emergency medical measures were being taken in order to treat those who had been injured immediately.
Mansa Devi Temple, one of Haridwar’s most revered sacred sites, is a main attraction for pilgrims during Sawan to perform religious rituals. The rapid increase in devotees at peak festivals highlights the difficulties of managing crowds and ensuring safety.
The state government expressed condolences and is closely monitoring the situation. The authorities have pledged to conduct a full investigation of the incident in order to identify the necessary measures to prevent future tragedies.
