Mumbai Weather News: Heavy rain continues to cause disruptions in Mumbai’s daily routine as the India Meteorological Department issues an orange alert for a second day. The financial capital of India is bracing itself for gusty winds and light rain after intense showers caused traffic jams and severe waterlogging over the weekend.
Forecasts call for light to moderate rain today. The amount of rainfall is expected to be between 5 and 15 millimeters per hour. Overcast skies will accompany these rains, and wind gusts of up to 50 kmph are possible in some places. Mumbai’s orange alert covers several areas, such as Borivali and Thane. It also includes Kalyan, Mulund. Powai. Santa Cruz. Chembur. Worli. Navi Mumbai. Colaba. Waterlogging in low-lying regions is likely to continue, so residents are advised to be cautious.
The rains in the city were among the most intense of the year between Saturday and Sunday. Certain western and eastern suburbs recorded over 200 millimeters. The Central and Western Railways were affected by flooding at various locations. A landslide that occurred in Vikhroli parksite also claimed the lives of two people.
Maharashtra Impact on the Economy
Mumbai is still under orange alert. However, the Madhya Maharashtra division, including regions like Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara, has issued a red warning. Up until August 19, extremely heavy rains are expected, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Marathwada, including Latur and Beed, is on alert as well today. The rainfall forecast suggests similar conditions.
Orange alerts are also in effect today for coastal areas, as well as neighboring provinces such as Dahanu, Alibag, and Raigad. Residents in the affected areas are warned to prepare for heavy rainfall, which increases localized flooding risks and landslides.
