RSS Centennial: Modi releases commemorative coin and stamp, says ‘RSS leaders went to jail for independence’

RSS Centenary: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated on Wednesday the 100th anniversary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh by issuing a commemorative stamp and coin. At the RSS Centennial Celebrations, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the sacrifices made by the RSS during India’s struggle for independence. He said that RSS leaders, including Dr. Keshav Balram Hedgewar, were imprisoned in British prisons because of their dedication to the country.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Vijayadashami, when the RSS was founded in 1925. PM Modi stressed the significance of the timing. He said that RSS’s formation on Dussehra wasn’t just a coincidence, but that it represented the revival of a long-standing tradition.
“The RSS suffered greatly at the hands British and Nizams because it believed in ‘nation-first’,” said PM Modi during the celebrations. Modi emphasized that RSS members were imprisoned and persecuted during India’s freedom struggle because of their unwavering commitment to India.
This commemorative coin is a first in Indian history. The image of Bharat Mata has never been on a coin before in India’s history, said PM Modi. It also features the RSS slogan “Rashtray Swaha,” “Idam Rashtraya,” and “Idam Na Mama,” meaning “Everything belongs to the country, nothing is mine.”
Stamps and coins commemorating the RSS highlight its contribution to India over the last century. PM Modi said that these commemorative items were symbols of the RSS’s dedication and selfless service to India’s cultural preservation and development.
In explaining the meaning of Vijayadashami in light of the RSS centenary, Prime Minister Modi outlined the festival’s symbolic significance. He said that tomorrow is Vijayadashmi. The festival symbolises victory over evil and injustice. It also signifies truth over lies, light over dark. The founding of RSS 100 years ago on Dussehra was no mere coincidence. It was the revival of a long-standing tradition.
The Prime Minister thanked everyone for being present to witness this historical milestone. He said, “We’re lucky that we are witnessing the centenary celebrations of the Sangh.” Celebrations of the RSS’s centenary highlight the role played by the RSS in India’s independence movement and the influence it continues to have on India’s social and cultural fabric.
These commemorative releases are a lasting tribute to the RSS and their members for their sacrifices in Indian Independence. The items are a way to preserve for future generations the memories of this organization.
