Canada Issues Warning Over Visa Scams and Fake Work Permits Ahead of FIFA World Cup

The Canadian Government has sent a warning to international travellers, urging them to remain vigilant in the lead up to this year’s FIFA World Cup. The authorities have warned people to be wary of FIFA World Cup visa scams. They specifically noted that unscrupulous agents are selling fraudulent packages that promise entry into the country and work.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has confirmed that FIFA World Cup fans do not require a “special” visa. Agents are still offering packages that claim they can obtain specific permits to allow soccer fans to work in Canada. It is important to note that the government stresses that fans who wish to enter Canada as tourists in order attend FIFA World Cup 26 ™ games will only be able do so as spectators.
The IRCC stated in a public statement that “if you wish to enter Canada as a visitor to watch a FIFA World Cup match, you will be considered a tourist. The FIFA World Cup visa is not available.

The IRCC reminds travelers that they need either an electronic travel authorization (eTA) or a visitor visa to enter Canada. The IRCC warned that “Do not fall for immigration agents promising entry into Canada during the FIFA World Cup 26.” The IRCC warned that no one could guarantee a visa, an electronic travel authorization, or any other type of document. They highlighted the serious consequences for misrepresentation and stated, “Make certain all your documentation is accurate, or you may risk a five-year ban.”
The warning is being issued as agents try to capitalize on the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, in which Canada, the United States, and Mexico will co-host matches at Toronto and Vancouver. Games are set to be held in Canada between June 11 and 19.
Social media is a source of misinformation, according to reports. In an Instagram post, a Chandigarh-based travel agent claimed that “this is a great opportunity for people who’ve been trying to settle down in Canada.” He also said Canada announced a policy that allows those going to the FIFA World Cup in Canada to be able to work with a visitor visa.
The attendance of matches does provide a reason for travel that is clear, but it doesn’t grant any work rights. The Toronto Star reported that there is a policy that requires an official invitation letter from FIFA. This only applies to FIFA employees, as well as those who work with its subcontractors and affiliates.

Kubeir Kamal, an immigration consultant in Toronto, highlighted the extent of the fraud. Agents are selling Canadian visas to people around the world under the pretense of attending #FIFA World Cup games! Watch the floodgates open and thousands of people exploiting this loophole!”
Kamal explained that these agents are using a narrative to convince people to visit Canada to see a FIFA match. “They’re sending messages saying it is easier now to obtain a Canadian Visa and there’s no need for a sponsor.”
A spokesperson for the IRCC reiterated that significant events such as the FIFA World Cup do not constitute grounds to apply for asylum. Visitors must respect their conditions of stay, and anyone who stays beyond the time limit will be subject to strict penalties.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada provides programs to assist newcomers in settling into Canada. It also issues Canadians travel documents, such as passports and citizenship.
