Gold Medalist Viral Video Scandal Explained: Truth Behind the Zyan Cabrera Link That’s Trapping Users Online

Experts in cybersecurity and Internet safety have issued an urgent alert about a rapidly spreading scam across various social media platforms.  It is strongly advised that internet users avoid clicking any links that claim to be a viral video featuring “Zyan Cabrera, Gold Medalist.” This is a phishing link that’s designed to hack Facebook and steal your personal information.

Internet searches for “Zyan Cabrera” are currently on the rise.  Scam posts often feature sensational headlines such as “Gold Medalist Video Viral” or “Pinay Scandal.”  Investigation reveals there is no such video.  Cybercriminals have created a fake story to lure unsuspecting victims.

The malicious link does not direct the user to a YouTube video.  They are instead redirected to a fake Facebook login page.  It is classic phishing.  This page will ask the user for their password and username to either “verify” age or to “continue viewing.”  The data is sent by the hacker immediately after the user has entered their credentials.  Although the user doesn’t see any videos, they still lose their access to social media accounts.

Analysts in cybersecurity explain how scammers manipulate search engines by using keywords that are of high interest.  They use words like “Gold Medalist” to try to confuse search algorithms, particularly during sports events such as the Winter Olympics.  Additions like “scandal,” which create curiosity and cause people to click, are a great way to get them interested.

This scam has severe consequences.  The hackers use the Facebook account to spread the malicious link.  The scam can spread quickly through this chain reaction.  Hackers can also use the compromised account to steal personal data, ask friends for money, and post offensive content.

According to experts, this campaign is aimed at users who consume viral content.  This “Zyan Cabrera” link is especially dangerous because it exploits public curiosity about public figures and leaked videos.  This is a “social engineering” psychological trick.

Internet users need to follow strict security protocols to stay protected.  Never click any links with shocking or scandalous content, because they’re almost always scams.  Check the website address (URL) first before you enter any password.  Do not enter your password if the URL does not include “facebook.com.” It is recommended that you enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for all your social media accounts.  It adds another layer of protection, which makes it more difficult for hackers to gain access even when they know the password.

If someone has clicked the link and already entered their information, they should change their password right away.  The user should log out of any active sessions in their security settings, then run a malware scan on their device.  Facebook must also be notified of the post in question to prevent the dangerous link from spreading.
