Government Bans Ullu, ALTBalaji & 25 OTT Platforms Showing “Pornographic” Content

New Delhi (India) – The Indian central government announced that 25 OTT platforms would be blocked, including well-known names such as ALTBalaji, ULLU, and others, because they allegedly hosted content deemed obscene and vulgar. This move is part of an ongoing crackdown on online platforms that violate Indian decency and content laws.

Sources within the ministry claim that this was a result of a comprehensive investigation that identified grave breaches in Indian law governing digital content. According to ministry sources, the platforms are accused of hosting “sexually explicit” material, including “sexual innuendos,” and long-term depictions of sexually explicit or nudity. These were classified as pornographic.

Preferred platforms are ALTBalaji App, ULLU App, Desiflix App, Big Shots App, Boomex App, and Gulab App. The decision was made to make sure that digital platforms follow regulatory standards while still maintaining high quality for the public.

Unnamed senior officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting spoke about the actions under condition of anonymity. They explained that the crackdown had to be carried out to deal with violations that posed a danger to decency and social norms. The official said that the content on these platforms is against Indian law, and we must ensure such violations are dealt with in a timely manner.

This decision shows the government’s commitment to maintaining cultural and legal standards while regulating digital content. The officials also suggested that the move could be part of a larger effort in the future to standardize guidelines for content across OTT platforms.

As the government continues to monitor compliance with other OTT services and digital platforms, we expect more updates.
