SpiceJet Incident at Srinagar Airport Leads Serious Assault By Army Officer
New Delhi (India) – On July 26, a SpiceJet Incident involving an Army senior officer at Srinagar Airport resulted in serious injuries to four SpiceJet airline employees.
In the beginning, the Spicejet incident started when the officer was scheduled to fly to Delhi and brought two cabin baggage bags totaling 16 kg, which exceeded the 7 kg cabin luggage allowance for domestic flights. SpiceJet claims that the employee informed the passenger politely about the extra baggage charge, but the officer did not comply. The officer then forcedly entered the aerobridge, without following established aviation security protocol.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a group of security officials, escorted him back to the boarding gates. As tensions escalated, the passenger became aggressive and physically attacked four SpiceJet employees.
In a press release, the airline expressed its shock at the severity of the incident. After being punched and kicked and assaulted with a line stand, our staff suffered serious injuries, including spinal fractures and severe jaw injuries. The passenger even continued to attack the unconscious staff member after a series of blows.
The airport footage shows an officer charging aggressively at airline staff, using a board of information as a weapon. CISF staff tried to step in and stop him. This chaotic scene raised concerns over safety protocols as well as the treatment of airline employees.
SpiceJet has condemned the incident and stressed the importance of maintaining aviation safety standards, as well as respecting airline staff on the ground. SpiceJet reaffirmed its commitment to support the injured staff and ensure their recovery.
