Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Strikes Back: Legal Action Against AI For Misusing Her Image

Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan filed a suit in the Delhi High Court on Tuesday to stop the unauthorised use of her voice, name, and image online. On Tuesday, the actress filed a lawsuit to stop multiple platforms from creating AI-generated objectionable content using her image for illicit and commercial purposes.

A court order is likely to be issued to stop defendants from using Aishwarya’s publicity and personality rights without Aishwarya’s consent. This suit targets deepfake, a technology that is used to produce sexually explicit “unreal” intimate photos of Aishwarya Rai. More directions are likely to be given for the removal of infringing websites. Aishwarya Rai’s legal representative stressed the seriousness of the matter during the hearing.

Her name and her image are being used by someone to fulfill their sexual desire. Sandeep Sethi, Senior Advocate, appearing on behalf of actor Aishwarya Rai, said that this was very unfortunate. This plea highlights the use of deepfake technologies to superimpose Aishwarya’s face onto sexually explicit and distasteful videos and images. The technology causes significant distress as well as reputational damage.

The lawsuit names several websites as defendants, including aishwaryaworld.com, apkpure.com, bollywoodteeshop.com, and kashcollectiveco.com, which have been accused of illegally using Aishwarya Rai’s name and photographs to sell products without her authorization. This case highlights the increasing concerns about the use of deepfake and AI technology in order to breach the rights and privacy of public figures. It is expected that the court’s ruling in this case will set an important precedent in protecting personality rights in the age of digital technology.
