Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s native ‘Swadeshi 4 G’ network stack, which marks a historical milestone, placing India along with Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, and China as nations that are capable of producing homegrown telecom gear. This initiative is a significant step forward in India’s telecommunications capabilities.

This rollout of the PM Modi BSNL Network in Odisha is directly aligned with Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India Vision, focusing on bridging digital divides and empowering the rural communities across the country. This transformative initiative will connect over 26,700 villages that were previously not connected, including 2,472 in Odisha. This initiative will bring connectivity to remote areas, border locations and zones affected by left-wing extremism.
The expansion of the network is anticipated to reach over 20 lakh additional subscribers and significantly expand BSNL’s reach in underserved areas. These towers, which are powered by solar energy, form India’s biggest cluster of sustainable and environmentally friendly telecom sites. They also advance the nation’s green infrastructure commitment.
The Prime Minister also announced India’s 100% 4G network saturation through his Digital Bharat Nidhi Initiative. The project, which is in mission mode, connects between 29,000 and 30,000 villages to ensure coverage throughout rural India.
This 4G technology is the result of years’ worth of development and research by Indian scientists and engineers. It reduces India’s dependency on foreign manufacturers. The technological breakthrough strengthens India’s position on the global telecoms market, while also enhancing its national security by using infrastructure that is controlled domestically.
Bharat Nigam Limited, India’s largest telecom company, provides comprehensive services throughout the nation. BSNL was established as a state-owned enterprise and has played a vital role in India’s digitalisation initiatives.
