Delhi Man Arrested After Viral Video Shows Dangerous SUV Stunt on National Highway

A man aged 21 was arrested after the Delhi Police released a viral video showing an SUV driving recklessly along a national highway. This incident on National Highway-48 sparked online outrage and led to swift actions from government officials and law enforcement agencies.

A viral video that circulated on Facebook on 18 January showed a black Scorpio-N, with tinted glass windows, weaving through the traffic. Video footage shows the car zigzagging along the GT Karnal Bypass Road in the direction of Narela. This reckless driving posed an immediate threat to commuters along the busy road and raised concerns over public safety.

Rekha Gupta, Delhi’s Chief Minister, addressed the issue publicly after she became aware of the viral video that was shared by an individual who is concerned. She confirmed in a social media statement on the platform X that police had taken action.

The Chief Minister Gupta announced, “An investigation has been opened at the Samaypur Badli Police Station under the BNS Act and the Motor Vehicle Act.” The offending vehicle, Scorpio, was seized. “A student of IGNOU has been arrested as the driver.”

A police team was sent to intercept the car after the video went viral. Officials claim that the incident took place between 3pm and 4pm on 18 January. The police identified the driver as Daud A. Ansari. He is an Okhla resident. The SUV’s registration documents showed that it was in Musafir Ansari’s name.

An officer of senior rank commented on the seriousness of the incident, noting that “the incident took place between 3pm and 4pm on 18 January on the GT Karnal Bypass Road.” It was clear that the way in which this vehicle was driven presented a serious risk for commuters. “The offending SUV was impounded in accordance with the law, and a further investigation is underway.”

The police filed a First Information Report after a detailed examination of video evidence and other materials. This case was filed in accordance with relevant sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act (BNS), for reckless and negligent actions endangering life. The driving licence of the accused has been confiscated for legal action.

The incident is a stark reminder that driving dangerously can have legal repercussions. It also highlights the importance of maintaining digital awareness. This viral video was crucial in alerting authorities and preventing accidents. Delhi Police continues to encourage citizens to bring to their attention similar traffic infractions to maintain road safety.
