Dancing at Duty? Jharkhand Police Inspector Removed After Viral Video with Wife at Police Station
A viral video of a Jharkhand Police Inspector dancing inside the police station compound sparked a formal investigation. The officer has been disciplined for his actions. This incident reportedly occurred on Republic Day and has caused serious concerns about professional conduct within law enforcement agencies.
In the viral video that has been widely shared on social media, the officer is seen dancing with his wife in uniform at the Hussainabad Police Station in the Palamu District. The officer, identified as Inspector Sonu Choudhary, is shown engaging in lighthearted behaviour, including placing his police cap onto his wife’s hair at one stage. The public, as well as officials, have criticised this display, asking whether such an action by a uniformed police officer is appropriate.

The authorities acted immediately after the video went viral. Reeshma RAMESAN, the Palamu SP, confirmed that Chandan Kumar has replaced Inspector Choudhary. After the video went viral, Kishore Kaushal (DIG of the Palamu Range) initiated disciplinary action. All of these are acts that show indiscipline or misconduct. Ramesan said that no police officer wearing a uniform is allowed to commit all of these acts.

According to police sources, it is against the law to film reels or videos for your own entertainment in a station. It was deemed a grave breach of protocol that an inspector, more specifically, the one in charge of the station, had participated and shared content. A sensitive area near Bihar’s border, the Hussainabad region, which is where the station was located, has been known for its criminal history, making it a prime candidate for a strict code of conduct.
Public reaction has been mixed to this viral video. Many have expressed disapproval at the casual approach of the police officer towards his duty. Users questioned whether the officer was doing his job or just trying to gain fame on social media. A user commented, “Sahi kiya ab ghar mein baith kar rail bnao,” which translates to, “They did what they had to do, so sit back at home, and enjoy making reels.”
Inspector Choudhary was a member of the 2012 batch and had previously worked at Chainpur Police Station. The incident is similar to one that occurred last year in Chandigarh Police, where an officer was suspended for a viral video showing his wife performing at a crossing. This highlights a trend of using social media while on duty.
