Rewa: Husband Arrested After 13 Minute Viral Video Case, Accused of Dowry Harassment and Abuse

A shocking case of cyber-harassment and domestic abuse has occurred in Rewa, when a husband was arrested after he recorded and circulated an intimate video with his wife. This case centers around a 13 minute viral video and highlights the disturbing combination of dowry abuse and an obsession with social media fame. Shivam Sahu was sent to prison after his Tuesday arrest.

After the victim complained to the police that her husband violated her trust and privacy, the incident came to light. The police report states that the suspect filmed the 13 minute viral video on their bed in December last year. Sahu, despite the victim’s objections to the video being shared on social media sites and via messaging applications, sent the footage to family members.

The police investigation revealed two motives for the crime: the desire to gain online fame and the attempt to extract dowry. The accused showed no remorse when questioned. The accused said he shared and recorded the viral video to become “famous”. The local authorities and community have been shocked by this admission.

A police officer close to the case said that the woman’s spouse was harassing and threatening her repeatedly for dowry, as well as trying to force her from the home.

She revealed to the victim that on 10 May, she had married Shivam Sahu. He is a Jhula-resident. Soon after her wedding, the harassment began. According to the victim’s younger brother, the Sahu family demanded 3 lakhs rupees when the couple married. The victim’s family was able to pay the first 2 lakh rupees, but the accused kept pressuring his wife to pay the remainder. Sahu, when she said that her financial situation prevented her from paying, threatened to defame the woman. He eventually carried out his threat and released the viral video.

The police have concluded that the suspect had been addicted to online explicit material for a very long time. The addiction escalated to the point where he filmed his wife. Police have charged him with dowry harassment under the relevant IT Act sections.

Shivam was arrested quickly after the police received the complaint. On Tuesday, he was brought before the district court, and the judge sentenced him to prison. A key piece of proof is still missing. The mobile phone used to upload and record the 13 minute viral video has yet to be recovered. Shivam Sahu claims that his phone was stolen. The police are verifying this statement as they search for it.

This is a sad reminder about the abuse of technology in domestic relationships. The viral video, which lasted 13 minutes, has raised serious concerns about individuals’ digital safety and their willingness to go to extremes for online fame.
