Amit Shah and Malikarjun Kharge – Parliament Erupts over Vande Mataram Debates and Nehru’s Legacy

The ongoing session of Parliament witnessed an intense showdown between Amit Shah and Malikarjun Kharge, centred on the political and historical significance of the nation song, Vande Mataram. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, strongly denied allegations that this discussion was a strategy by the BJP to influence the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. Mallikarjun Kharge, as the Leader of Opposition, called the debate a distraction tactic.
Amit Shah and Malikarjun Kharge’s confrontation started in the Rajya Sabha when the Union Minister of Home Affairs responded to remarks made by Congress leader Priyanka Vadra. Gandhi criticizedcriticized the focus of the government on the National Song on Monday. She said that holding a debate on why two stanzas had been adopted would be an insult to freedom fighters and those who drafted the Constitution. She said that India’s founder fathers had settled the history of the song adoption.
Amit Shah disputed the idea that the Vande Mataram discussion had anything to do with current political issues. Amit Shah said that those who link the Vande Mataram debate to the Bengal elections must reconsider how they think. Shah said that Vande Mataram was “the mantra” that woke up India’s culture nationalism, and that it transcended political timelines. Shah said that discussion is as important today as it was during the independence movement, and even more so when India is developed in 2047.

The Congress president escalated the Amit Kharge vs Malikarjun Kharge debate, accusing Amit of trying to divert attention away from important national issues by using this exchange. Kharge claimed that the government prioritizedprioritized historical revisionism above solving current issues in the country. Kharge aimed at the Home Secretary’s positioning with Prime Minister Cameron’s rhetoric.
Kharge said that PM Modi and Amit Shah do not miss a chance to insult Jawaharlal Nehru and other Congress leaders. But that’s only natural. Amit Shah always follows the PM wherever he goes!
