Deng Mayar Nebraska Omaha Basketball Player, Dies at Age 22 Due To Drowning Incident

Deng Mayar: The University of Nebraska Omaha confirmed that forward Deng Mayar died tragically on Saturday after a drowning accident in Utah. Mayar transferred to Omaha as a graduate after two seasons with North Dakota.
The Omaha World-Herald reported that Mayar drowned in an incident near Herriman Reservoir, Utah. ABC 4 reported, identifying Mayar as his father by last name only, that Mayar was struggling with another man in the water. The second man reached the shore and was transported to the local hospital. Mayar was found later in the evening. While the second man is in stable condition, further details about this incident are still unclear.
Mayar is a native of Salt Lake City and attended Copper Hills High School. He averaged 6.3 scoring points and 4 rebounds a game last season at North Dakota. He was a well-known athlete who had a positive presence both on and off the court.
