Dona Ganguly Files FIR Over Complaint of Online Harassment

A FIR was registered by Kolkata Police after Dona Ganguly filed a complaint regarding online harassment. Dona Ganguly is a well known Odissi Dancer, and the wife of former Cricketer Sourav Ganguly. She claimed she had been subjected by obscene remarks and body shaming in social media. An investigation was launched immediately.

Dona Ganguly formally filed the complaint at Thakurpukur Police Station. Unidentified persons were then charged with filing a FIR against her for “repeatedly posting objectionable remarks on Facebook”. The complaint describes a campaign of targeted harassment against a particular Facebook page.

The complaint states that the offensive remarks made against Dona after she danced with her group at the inaugural of the Kolkata International Film Festival, where they performed. Content posted on social media was offensive, and intended to harm her reputation. Kolkata Police’s Cyber Cell has taken the case and is actively investigating the matter in order to determine the culprits.

The Kolkata Police spokesperson confirmed that the development. We have filed an FIR after receiving the complaint of Mrs. Dona. Cyber Cell investigates the case to find the harassers. This investigation aims to identify the Facebook administrators and those who have posted defamatory material. The case brings to light the increasing issue of cyberbullying, and harassment online against public figures.

Dona Ganguly, a celebrated Odissi Dancer is the founder of a dance organization called ‘Diksha Manjari. She performed in India as well as abroad and contributed significantly to the promotion classical Indian dance. She is well-known as the wife to Sourav, former Indian cricket captain and President of BCCI.
