IndiGo Cancels over 550 Flights due to widespread disruptions in the network

Travel chaos is engulfing airports as IndiGo has cancelled over 550 flights, the third consecutive day that IndiGo’s the airline has experienced severe operational disruptions. These cancellations on December 4 affected domestic as well as international flights, and left hundreds of passengers scrambling for alternative arrangements.

IndiGo’s cancellation of over 550 flights has had the greatest impact on major metro hubs. Data released on Thursday revealed that Delhi was the airport with the most cancellations, amounting to 172. Mumbai was next with 118 cancellations, Bangalore had 100, Hyderabad had 75, Kolkata had 35, Chennai had 26, and Goa had 11. These cancellations highlight the seriousness of operational problems currently plaguing low-cost carriers.

This has caused a cascading impact across the entire airline network. IndiGo has cancelled over 550 flights, but passengers report widespread delays at the check-in desks. The operational instabilities have lasted for more than three days and are causing travelers to be concerned during this busy travel season. This airline has blamed the problems on “operational interruptions”, but it hasn’t yet revealed the technical root cause.

In the face of mounting frustrations, the airline publicly admitted the seriousness of the situation. The carrier released a statement on Thursday evening apologizing to all those who were inconvenienced by IndiGo’s cancellation of over 550 flights.

IndiGo has experienced widespread network disruptions and operational issues over the last two days. IndiGo apologized to its customers and other industry participants who were affected by the events.

Further, the airline stressed that it was working with aviation authorities in order to solve the bottleneck. The statement said that “IndiGo team members are making every effort with support from MOCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI, and Airport Operators to reduce cascading effects of delays and restore normality.”
