Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu): A Mother and Lesbian partner are arrested for the murder of an infant
KRISHNAGIRI (TAMIL NADU) – A woman, 26, and her partner were arrested in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday for their involvement in the death of her 5-month-old child. Police began investigating after the father of the child raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death.
S. Bharathi is the main suspect, a 26-year-old resident of Chinnati, near Kelamangalam, in Krishnagiri. She is the mother of two daughters older than her and gave birth to a boy five months ago. The infant, according to the police report, died shortly after his mother breastfed him on 4 November. After burying the corpse on their land, the family notified authorities. Suresh became suspicious after learning of the death of the baby.
Suresh, after checking the mobile phone of his wife, discovered pictures and videos that suggested a romance between Bharathi, 20, and Sumithra. Sumithra had also sent a photo of a dead infant to Bharathi after the child’s death. Suresh, armed with this evidence, filed a formal police complaint at Kelamangalam, resulting in a thorough investigation of the tragedy that occurred in Krishnagiri.
Police investigation showed that Bharathi and Sumithra’s relationship had been strained since the birth of the boy child. Sumithra is said to have urged Bharathi to kill the baby so that their relationship would continue uninterrupted. A police source revealed that Bharathi, the mother of the child, strangled him while nursing on 4 November.
Authorities exhumed an infant from a family property in Krishnagiri on Friday. The post-mortem confirmed the death as a strangulation homicide. The Kelamangalam Police registered a complaint after the autopsy, and both Bharathi & Sumithra were arrested. On Saturday, the two women were placed in judicial custody by Dharmapuri Prison.
