Manu Bhaker Addresses Khel Ratna Controversy

Ace Indian Shooter Manu Bhaker has spoken out about her exclusion as a nominee for the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Manu is unfazed by the widely discussed snub and urges that her main goal remains to win medals for India.

In a statement released recently, Bhaker said that her role as an athlete is to perform and play for my nation. She clarified that while awards are inspiring, they do not define her career. She admitted there was a possible lapse in nominations and said that she is working to rectify the issue.

Her father, Ram Kishan, disagreed, saying the nomination was submitted properly, but no response was received. Bhaker, who has been embroiled in controversy, asked people not to speculate, saying, “I will remain motivated regardless of whether I win medals for my nation.”

Manu was not included in the list of nominees by the 12-member National Sports Award Committee led by Justice V Ramasubramanian. Harmanpreet Singh, the captain of India’s hockey team, and para-athlete Praveen Kumru were among those who made it to the shortlist.

A source from the Sports Ministry clarified, however, that the list of winners is not yet finalized. A recommendation was made, but ministerial approval is needed. “A meeting about this will likely take place shortly,” the source revealed.
