Missing Persons Cases in Delhi; Delhi Police Say There’s No Need to Panic

The Delhi Police has released a press release assuring the citizens of Delhi that recent statistics regarding missing persons are not cause for concern. Authorities clarified after reports of over 800 missing persons cases in Delhi in the first six months of the year. These figures represent a decrease compared with the previous period. Police stressed that the standard safety protocol remains in place and warned the public not to be frightened by misinterpreted statistics.

Press Trust of India has accessed official data showing that 807 individuals were reported missing from January 1 to 15, an average of 54 people per day. These Delhi missing persons reports indicate that 298 men and 509 women were reported. Moreover, data show that 191 missing persons were minors, while 616 were adults. The police said that despite these figures, there was a decline in the number of missing person reports compared with the same period in previous years.

Delhi Police maintains that it adheres to a policy of transparent and neutral reporting. To facilitate an immediate investigation, all complaints about missing persons in Delhi are promptly registered. The authorities have stressed that citizens can report missing persons not only through local police stations but also via convenient online platforms or by calling 112. The multi-channel strategy ensures help can be accessed and investigations begin immediately.

The police follow Standard Operating Procedures to address such cases effectively. The police make immediate efforts to locate any missing person, and cases that involve children are given the highest priority. Missing persons squads were deployed in all the districts to ensure a focused response. The Crime Branch Anti-Human Trafficking Unit also actively handles sensitive cases. This is especially true for those that involve children.

In response to fears that coordinated criminal activities were taking place, police have clarified “that no organized criminal gangs or networks are involved in the cases of abducted or missing children in Delhi.” The statement is intended to dispel rumours that organized kidnappings are on the rise.

The authorities have urged the public to be vigilant, but also calm. Police warned citizens to ignore rumours and unreliable information spread on social media.
