Asia Cup 2025: Mohsin Naqvi Sets Conditions For Trophy Handover to India

Asia Cup 2025 – The Asia Cup trophy controversy took a turn when Mohsin NAQVI, the chief of the Asian Cricket Council(ACC), reportedly set a condition to hand over the trophy and medals for the winning Indian cricket team. This unprecedented event occurred after Team India refused to take the Asia Cup trophy 2025 directly out of Naqvi’s hand during the award ceremony.

Drama unfolded in Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday after India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets to win the exciting Asia Cup 2025 Final. Naqvi was also the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) head. He attended the award ceremony but abruptly left when India reiterated that they would only accept the trophy from an impartial official.

Cricbuzz reported that Naqvi informed the tournament organizers he would return the Asia Cup trophy and medals only to Suryakumar’s team if an official function were organized where he could personally present the awards. The Indian team returned to their home country without the Asia Cup 2025 medals and trophy.

This controversy is a result of the tensions that exist between India and Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India maintains its position on protocol issues. It is unlikely that a formal event will be held, given the political tensions between India and Pakistan.

Devajit Saikia, BCCI Secretary, expressed his strong disappointment over Naqvi’s actions. He stated that bringing the Asia Cup trophy 2025 to Naqvi’s hotel room was “very unfortunate” and “very unsporting.” Saikia confirmed the BCCI’s decision to escalate this matter to the International Cricket Council.

We have not decided to accept the trophy of the ACC Chairman, who is also one of Pakistan’s most prominent leaders. Saikia said to ANI that this does not mean the man will be taking the trophy and medals with him. The BCCI wants the Asia Cup trophy and medals returned as soon as possible to India.

BCCI Secretary also plans to file a formal complaint against Naqvi during the upcoming ICC Conference scheduled in November, Dubai. The Asia Cup trophy dispute is a first in the history of international cricket. Political considerations overshadowed sports achievements.

The Asia Cup final took place two days ago, but there is still no timeline on when the trophy will reach deserving Indians. Cricket fans in both countries are disappointed by the situation, which has ruined what was supposed to be a celebration for India’s Asia Cup victory in 2025.

The Asian Cricket Council, the administrative regional body of cricket in Asia, is responsible for the organization and management of tournaments such as the Asia Cup. The ACC promotes and develops cricket in Asian countries while maintaining its integrity and spirit.
