A pilgrim, clutching a water bottle, was taken away by strong floodwaters that have overwhelmed Ajmer after torrential rainfall during the last few days. The incident was recorded on film and posted widely on social media.
The incident took place when the pilgrim got caught by the powerful currents close to the Hashmi Hotel. Quickly stepping in, a brave employee of the hotel was quick to respond. He sprinted through the rough waters to reach the person and then successfully carried the person to safe shores. His selfless deed of bravery transformed a moment that could have been tragic into one of hope and heroics, gaining much praise for the rescuer’s swift thinking and savage reaction.
Ajmer has been severely impacted by continuous rains, leaving many roads submerged, causing massive disruption all over the city. The video footage uploaded by ANI early on a Saturday morning shows Ana Sagar Lake overflowing due to the continuous rain. The residents worked with one another to stop the rising water levels, making use of sandbags in order to build barriers that would prevent the lake from flooding.
As per Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Vinod Manohar, the flooding may be in part due to the release of water out of the channels that drain into the lake. The waterlogging occurs because of the water that escapes from the channels that the lake. The gate to the channel has been opened up by more than 30 inches.
