What Happened at Junagadh’s Mrugi Kund? Influencer Kirti Patel Viral Video With Naga Sadhus Triggers Row
Kirti Patel Viral Video: A controversy has broken out following the distribution of a viral video showing social media influencer Kirti Patel allegedly breaking religious protocol during the Bhavnath Mahashivratri Mela. Kirti Patel, who is a female ascetic, was reportedly dressed as one on Monday, 16 February, to gain access to a restricted zone and bathe in Mrugi Kund. This ritual has traditionally been reserved for Naga Sadhus and other ordained Saints.
The incident took place during peak Ravedi, when the public is prohibited from entering the Mrugi Kund to preserve the sacredness of the Shahi Snan. Patel was dressed in traditional saffron clothing and headwear, witnesses claim. Before entering the bath, he blended with hundreds of other saints.

Reports claim that she was chanting “Har Har Mahadev” with the saints. The crowds gathered for the fair’s last day were so large that the alleged violation went unnoticed at first. Administrative officials and local devotees quickly identified her, and she was promptly removed from the Kund.
Kirti Patel viral video, filmed in its aftermath, shows an intense confrontation between her and the local police. Patel can be seen in the video arguing with the authorities. She says, “I’m not a criminal or an accused,” and accuses the police of harassing her when asked about entering the restricted area.
Charansinh Ghohil, Junagadh Prant officer, addressed the media about the breach. He said this incident was unprecedented in the history of Bhavnath Mela. The sheer number of pilgrims was a challenge at first, but officials acted quickly once they became aware.
This event has been criticized by the Sanatana Dharma community and political leaders alike, who see it as a violation of the traditions of Sanatana Dharma.

Sukhramdas Bapa, a local saint, has condemned the act. He called it “a conspiracy to defile Mrugi Kund” and an “attempt to fool the public by putting on saffron.”
Sanjay Koradiya, MLA, also weighed in, saying that the “traditions” had been violated and that strict legal action would be taken following an investigation by the District collector and Superintendent of Police.
The authorities in Junagadh have been reviewing CCTV footage and are consulting the Saint community. They will decide if Patel is to be charged with obstructing Government duty or hurting religious feelings.
