Amit Prasad, the Special Public Prosecutor, strongly disagreed with these arguments, saying that it was the defendants themselves who were responsible for the delays in the case, not the prosecution. Prasad claimed that Ahmed had been a part of a larger conspiracy in the case of the 2020 Delhi Riots, which led to widespread violence in North East Delhi and the loss of lives.
Authorities allege that those accused in the case of the 2020 Delhi Riots were key players in the planning and execution of the violence, which erupted on February 20, 2020. Over 50 people were killed and hundreds were injured in these riots that coincided with the visit of then-US President Donald Trump to India.
