On Wednesday, the Maharashtra deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, was tragically killed along with five other people when their aircraft crashed in the Pune district. This tragic incident sent shockwaves across the country, prompting the government of Maharashtra to declare three days of mourning.
An accident occurred when a Learjet 45 (registration: VT-SSK) operated by VSR attempted to land at Baramati, Pune. Officials at the scene said that the accident occurred during the landing phase and all those on board were killed. Six people were on board: Ajit Pawar, one personal security officer (PSO), one attendant and two crew, which included the pilot in command and first officer.

The authorities have immediately launched an investigation to determine the cause of this crash. A specialized probe team has left for Baramati in order to inspect the wreckage and to determine what sequence of events led to the tragedy. Aviation experts and law enforcement officials are working to secure the area to conduct a comprehensive investigation. This will ensure that every factor, such as technical failures or environmental factors, is thoroughly analyzed.

Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, addressed the media after the news of Ajit Pawar’s death was confirmed. He appeared visibly touched by the loss. There is a sadness that permeates the entire state. It is unprecedented to lose a leader of his stature. He was also a close friend in his personal life. Together, we faced many obstacles. “We have declared three days of mourning for the entire state,” Fadnavis said.
Ajit Pawar’s death has brought out a flood of emotion from all sides of the political spectrum. The highest government offices have paid tribute. The Maharashtra and President Droupadi Murmu expressed their condolences. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister and Rajnath Singh both expressed their condolences. They acknowledged Pawar’s important role in Maharashtra politics.

Priyanka Vadra, Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the Congress joined in expressing their sorrow, highlighting how the tragedy has affected the political scene. Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also shared their sorrow, marking an occasion of national solidarity in the mourning for the deceased leader.

Ajit Pawar, a well-known figure in Maharashtra’s politics and known for his deep connections with grassroots people as well as his administration skills, was an important political figure. The state is left with a large void following his untimely death. Flags will be flown at half mast, and there will not be any official entertainment during the three-day mourning period. As citizens and supporters gather to say their last respects, the government will announce arrangements for a funeral.
