Uttarkashi Cloudburst – Flash floods in Uttarkashi’s Dharali region near Harsil caused flash flooding on Tuesday. The storm washed away entire villages and infrastructure. Local authorities expect to receive more information as the rescue operation continues. Initial reports indicate that at least fifty people are still missing.

In the wake of an India Meteorological Department alert, which predicted extremely heavy rains in isolated areas of Uttarakhand for Tuesday morning, this incident occurred. According to local reports, around 20-25 homestays and hotels were destroyed by the flash floods. Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, has spoken directly with Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami regarding this situation. Shah directed the ITBP as well as the NDRF to provide immediate assistance for residents affected by this disaster while expediting rescue efforts.

Under difficult circumstances, response teams continue to prioritize the safety of all those affected by this disaster. As the nation struggles to deal with the devastating aftermath, our thoughts are with Uttarkashi.
