Who is CP Radhakrishnan and Why Nominated by NDA for Vice President Election

New Delhi (India) – CP Radhakrishnan is the National Democratic Alliance’s nominee in the upcoming Vice President Election. This announcement comes after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned. The election is scheduled to take place on September 9th.
CP Radhakrishnan is currently the Governor of Maharashtra. He has also held positions as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor in Puducherry. The nomination is a major milestone in his long and distinguished career as a politician.
Born Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan, in Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu to the Kongu-Velalar Gounder tribe, he earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration at V. O. Chidambaram College, in Thoothukudi. CP Radhakrishnan showed a variety of talents during his college days, winning a table tennis college championship.
CP Radhakrishnan began his political career at the age of 17 by joining both the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Jana Sangh. In 1974, he became a member of the Jan Sangh’s state executive committee.
As a member of the Lok Sabha for Coimbatore, he gained prominence in India as a Member of Parliament. He served in this capacity in both 1998 and 1999. In 1998, his victory was especially significant because he was one of only three BJP Candidates to have won in Tamil Nadu after the alliance between the AIADMK and the BJP. CP Radhakrishnan served on the Standing Committee on Textiles and other committees, including finance and public-sector undertakings, during his parliamentary term.
CP Radhakrishnan was part of India’s legislative delegation at the UN General Assembly in 2004, where he addressed disaster relief and coordination. From 2004-2007, he served as the BJP state president for Tamil Nadu. During this time, CP Radhakrishnan undertook a 93-day Ratha Yatra that covered 19,000 kilometers and culminated in a special “Ratha Yatra”.
CP Radhakrishnan began his gubernatorial tenure in February 2023, when Narendra Modi named him the Governor of Jharkhand. In his first four-month term, he visited all 24 districts to meet with residents and local leaders.
