Bihar Election Dates Announced: Two Phases of voting on November 6th and 11th

The Election Commission of India announced today the Bihar election dates for the coming Assembly polls. Elections for the 243 members of the assembly will take place in two phases, on November 6 and 11, with voting scheduled to occur on November 14, 2025. The announcement of this election sets up a significant electoral battle in the state.

Gyanesh Kumna, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), provided information on the schedule of voting during a recent press conference. On November 6, the first phase will include 121 constituencies. This phase’s official announcement will take place on October 10, with nominations closing on October 17 and withdrawals ending on October 20. Second phase: November 11, for the remaining 122 constituencies. The notification for the election will be published on October 13, and nominations close on October 20.

The CEC, in a statement that highlighted the size of this democratic process, confirmed the eligibility of over 7,4 crore voters to vote at the Bihar Assembly Elections. Over 7.4 crore voters are eligible for the Bihar Assembly Elections, including 14 lakh newcomers,” said Mr. Kumar. The elections would be held peacefully and transparently. He said that this was the commitment of the electoral commission to an honest process. The commission’s commitment to a fair electoral process is also emphasized by his remarks that the postal ballots must be counted before the two final rounds of voting from machines.

The two-phased election is a departure from the three-phased assembly elections in 2020, conducted under the COVID-19 pandemic constraints. Bihar’s election dates have officially started the process of elections. Political parties are now getting ready to start their campaigns in the entire state.
