Tobacco Usage In India

In India Tobacco is used on a very large scale. Every year 1.35 million death is reported in India who was consuming tobacco. Tobacco leads to cause many serious and dangerous problems like cancer, lung disease, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. Tobacco is a major risk factor for chronic diseases. In India tobacco is consumed in many forms like Bidi, Guthkha, Tambaku, Chaini Khaini, Surti, Cigarette, Hookah, Ganja, and Zarda. These are the basic forms of consumption of tobacco in India.

The government started many campaigns against tobacco usage. There is a campaign running called NoTobacco in which awareness programs are running in which people are told why they should not use tobacco. Currently, the government put tobacco in the highest Goods and Services Tax(GST) of 28%. India is imposing the burden of taxes on tobacco so that peoples use it less amount. There are some additional taxes are imposed on tobacco products like cigarettes and pan masala.
